Jo Fairley 

Green and Black's Co-Founder and Leading Entrepreneur

Jo Fairley is an entrepreneur best known for creating the Green & Black’s chocolate brand in 1991, which she ran with her husband before it was bought by Cadbury in 2005. 

The first-ever product to carry the UK Fairtrade Mark, for the past nine years, Green & Black’s has been hailed as the ‘coolest food brand’ in Britain (according to the Cool Brands Survey), and is now worth $100 million a year.

Jo is in demand as a brand consultant, alongside her own ventures which have included an organic bakery, natural food store and a nine-room salon and wellbeing centre in her home town of Hastings. Most recently, she created and launched The Perfume Society, which works with the fragrance industry seeking to improve individuals’ sense of smell in a pleasurable and engaging way.

An award winning author and journalist, Jo has written for a wide range of newspapers and magazines from The Times to The Mail on Sunday’s YOU Magazine, and as a ‘Wonder Woman’ business guru for Telegraph Woman Online.

Christina Kreitel, a native of Utah is owner of Intrepid Studio Salons, a leading stylist & colourist and a Cosmoprof brand ambassador & educator. After realizing there was a serious lack of Branding and Social Media knowledge in the Hair & Beauty Industry, she founded her own salon in 2017 and used social media to skyrocket to almost 55k engaged followers in as little as 1 year!  After learning to brand herself, she has been featured in some of America's top beauty magazines such as Modern Salon, American Salon, Behind The Chair, and more! She has taught on all of main stages of North America, travelled internationally, and done hundreds of private tutoring and classes with stylists and salons across the world.

Albie X Cortes, President of In Common Beauty for Luxury Brand Partners is a 28 year veteran of the industry. LBP by way of introduction are the parent company of brands such as R+Co, IGK, Smith & Cult and V76 by Vaughn

Starting out in sales for a Paul Mitchell distributorship in southern California, Albie then ventured to New York where he worked for Estee Lauder's Bumble and bumble & L’Oreal's Kérastase respectively. 

More recently, Albie’s wealth of experience and knowledge led him to help develop and launch In Common Beauty with artists Nikki Lee & Riawna Capri of Nine Zero One Salon, West Hollywood.

In this session entitled Retail Carbon Monoxide, Albie will draw our awareness to the damaging trends that are happening in the salon retail space & share with us a case study of how one salon owner decided to take it on and combat the problem! 

Albie's passion for the industry, drive & enthusiasm is contagious and I have no doubts that you will leave this session feeling inspired, empowered and motivated to take on the retail challenges that our industry is facing.

David Barnett  

Salon Business Coach


David Barnett is a UK based salon coach who educates across Ireland, UK, USA & Australia on the“new age” of leadership and marketing.

A fourth-generation hairdresser, David began his career in the industry at just 16 years of age! It began in Toni & Guy, Dublin and by age 22 he had become one of their youngest ever franchisees. After 10 years with Toni & Guy, David set his sights on New York & joined John Barrett's 5th Avenue Salon! 

David met his wife Nicole in Chicago where they managed a flag-ship salon for the multi-billion dollar beauty company, Ulta Beauty. In 2009 they opened Brush Salon in Healdsburg, California and in 5 years grew their business to 7 figures and a team of multiple stylists earning over 6 figures each. Brush went on to win Best Salon in the North Bay for 3 consecutive years and in 2016 was chosen to do the first ever pop-up salon for the VIPS at Super Bowl 50 in San Francisco.

David and Nicole sold Brush in 2016 to focus 100% on coaching stylists and salonowners. Their online program, “The High-Performance Stylist” and “The 7 Figure Salon”, is now allowing salons and stylists all over the world to transform their salons into systematic, highly profitable businesses and their teams into career focused professionals. The salons they coach range in size from the single chair salon suite to the 50 chair, urban life-style salon.

We all have our default or ‘go-to’ ways of doing and saying things in the salon; We may use the same greeting every time clients come in, or offer the same drinks to everyone, in fact we pride ourselves on delivering fab service to everyone.

BUT - what if everyone wasn’t the same?

What if they had a secret profile that describes how they behave, react, communicate - and that if you knew their secret code YOU could influence them more?

They might buy retail, or make more bookings, or try new services, or buy vouchers.

In this workshop Mel will will show you how you can use a tool called DISC to decode people’s behaviours and find out what their needs are, what motivates them - and what closes them down!

Mel will also look at buying behaviours of different profiles and how you can influence people based on their and your communication style.
